About me

I'm a self-taught programmer that has been coding for around 22 years, professionally 11. I was fascinated by gaming and the mod community which inspired me to pick up my own programming books and learn about Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory modding. From there I went on to learn about hosting servers, reverse-engineering games to write cheats for games like Minesweeper and an aimbot for Quake 3, and now I work at Amazon to improve the experience of managing your shopping cart and checking out your purchase. In that time I have worked on launching new customer experiences like the empty cart page or add to delivery, migrating off of legacy systems, improving perceived latency with optimistic client-side actions, improving throughput to reduce resource contention and improve the responsiveness of the website, and maintain tools which help assist with observability to diagnose customer issues. I consider most of my experience to be in frontend, but with specializations in operations and performance analysis.
